Finland has significantly improved in reading, math, and scientific literacy over the last decade, thanks in large part to teachers who are trusted to do whatever it takes to change the lives of young people. Besart Kabashi, a 13-year-old boy, received what amounted to royal tutoring.
For many years, Finland's educational system has been quite successful. In the PISA survey, which compares 15-year-olds' reading, math, and science skills throughout the world, Finland not only ranks first in Europe but also competes with Asian behemoths like Shanghai, Singapore, and South Korea. So what distinguishes this little country's educational system from others in the Western world?
First, the Finnish government allows all children to attend preschool, which follows kindergarten. Compulsory schooling begins at the age of seven. Instructors spend as much time as possible at school with their students. When they come home, they have little homework to complete. If it helps them achieve their goals, they learn in groups. That is why many quit out.
As a result, dropout rates are low in comparison to other countries.
In contrast to other countries, teaching is a highly valued profession in Finland. Finland carefully picks its instructors. Only exceptional pupils progress to a university and get a master's degree in education. Finland exclusively employs the greatest educators to teach its young. Instructors will attempt anything to help their students succeed. During their primary school years, the majority of students get additional assistance, either from their instructors or from highly qualified educators.
